How do I clean a stained WC bowl?

I also think you are going to have to use pumice. But before you do that I would suggest that you toss some (about 6) denture cleaning tablets into the bowl and let it sit overnight.

When you are getting ready to scrub the bowl fill a bucket with cold water and pour that into the bowl. That is the best way to flush and have the least amount of water left in the bowl.

Empty bowl by shutting off the water at the wall, then flush. Take a paper bathroom cup to empty the left over water and scrub with pumice stone. This works with a bit of grime or years of build up. Newer bowls do not clean as well as the old ones, but it may work at least more than other products.

Basic Works (or I think it's called The Works) Toilet cleaner. $1 at the Dollar Store.

I agree with a pumice stone. Coca Cola works on basic stains. I tried denture tablets and they did nothing. Be careful with The Works. It can etch the glaze over time and the toilet will get stained quicker.

Call me crazy...but I was having the same problem with the bottom of the bowl where it starts to flush. It didn't seem to be a problem until I bought one of the newer, more efficient models, so I thought it might have something to do with the lesser amount of water produced with each flush, leaving residual unflushed "ickyness" (sp?) at the base of the bowl where it takes a down turn. So, I was using the brush as usual, but it never seemed to go away. Then, one day, I tried using a cloth, reached down as far as my hand could go, and wiped it TOTALLY OFF! Poof! My thought is that the shape of the bowl where it starts to take a downward turn might not allow the shape of the brush to really get in there. Like I said, call me crazy, but I just now did it again and it worked perfectly. It's not fun putting your hand in there, but you could obviously use a glove. I'm curious to know if this works for anyone else. Diane

I always shake my head when people say they clean their toilets with a pumice stone. How? It's hard and rectangular and seems like it would scratch and then, EEUUWW!, what do you do with it???? 🚽

Anyway, interesting thoughts about the newer water efficient ones and if it flows enough to clean or the curviness of the bowl makes a difference, but either way, I also get marks/dirt in the bottom of the bowl and along the water line. I'm sure the water line is from something in our water and it doesn't just brush off so here is my routine:

Turn the water off that feeds the toilet and flush. This empties the tank. Now, flush again and the bowl is empty. I use cheap throw away plastic gloves and sprinkle Bar Keeper's Friend into the bowl. Grab 2 strips of my Bounty paper towels and get them wet from the residual water in the bowl. Scrub first under the rim, then the water line all the way around and finally anything in the bottom of the bowl.

I leave the 2 strips of paper towels inside the bowl and strip off the plastic gloves inside out, sealing all germs away from me and dispose of them. Wash my hands in warm water with my DIY disinfecting soft soap. Finally, I turn the water supply back on to the toilet and let the tank fill. I flush the cleanser and paper towel away using the "large" flush option. Done and done! 😎
