If you have organic materials decomposing = bacteria, then buy enzymes which eat organic materials and spray them into the drain. { I get mine at the Soap Exchange.} If you have sulfur in your water [rotten egg smell] then google the fix for that.

1 c. Baking soda, 1 cup vinegar. Pour down drain and let set 30 to 45 min. Follow with a kettle or saucepan of boiling water. Repeat if needed. Greasy soaps contribute to this problem.

Remove and clean the P trap. This is a regular maintenance item that should be done once or twice a year. Make sure you have a bucket handy before you pull off the trap

Take out the drain plug itself. You will probably gag but, scrub it off, soak it in bleach till the black is gone and put it back. No more smell if you do it when you clean the bathroom.
