You could try WD40, spray it on and let it penetrate then try to remove.

Hello. You’ve given it a great shot —vinegar was an excellent idea to try. Here’s a link that offers your ideas including using a lubricant and a pipe wrench. Best of luck trying to get it off. Calcium buildup can be quite crusty…Remember that from my previous used home purchases.

You may wish to remove the arm from the wall rather than the head from the shower. Here are nice video instructions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtMwrKLyo24&ab_channel=jeffostroff

Regarding removing just the head: "Turn the wrench or pliers clockwise to attempt to crack the built-up rust or calcium, then counterclockwise to loosen and remove the showerhead. If the tools aren't working, you should treat the showerhead with a rust, calcium and lime remover (CLR or stronger). This should loosen the buildup and allow for the removal of the showerhead."

WD40 may not be the best solvent for the job. A solvent that's made mainly to loosen screws, like Liquid Wrench or B'Laster, may work better, but they also might not work too well against the residues that build up on plumbing.

    • Apply penetrating lubricant to the shower head. Penetrating lubricants, like WD-40 and Liquid Wrench, can work wonders on a stuck shower head. Apply one coat of the penetrating lubricant to the connector or nut. Allow it to sit for two hours.
    • Apply a second coat of the penetrating lubricant to the connector or nut. Allow it to sit for two hours.
    • Cover the connector or nut with a cloth.
    • Grip the fixture or nut with a wrench and attempt to loosen the shower head.

Use an abrasive tool such as a wire brush or a steel wool pad to get into the grooves of the wire. Make sure to remove any rust if there is any on the threads, so the new shower head doesn’t start to have rust around it.

    • Remove old tape, rust, and or mineral build-up from the shower arm’s treads. Never re-attach a shower head to an uncleaned shower arm.Peel off the old plumber’s tape from the shower arm’s treads. Use a wire brush or an exacto-knife if needed.
    • If rust or mineral build-up is visible, apply a rust, calcium, and lime remover to the shower head.
    • Allow the product to sit for the allotted time.
    • Use a wire brush to remove the product and scrub off the rust, calcium, and lime.
    • Use an old rag to wipe the shower arm clean.

I included a photo. You will need a pair of pliers or adjustable wrench on the nut where the red arrow is. if the nut is on tight you will need another pair of pliers on the pipe where the yellow arrow is to keep it from moving.

Use a locking wrench to hold it in place at the neck then a second one to turn and loosen.

  • You can try a hair dryer or heat gun at the point that's stuck. Don't get super close with the heat but warm it up and use pliers again, it should twist off easily.

    • Cover adjustable pliers or wrench with the cloth rag to protect the fitting and place over the connecting nut.
    • Tighten the pliers or wrench as needed to grip the connection.
    • Turn counterclockwise to unscrew and remove the old shower head.

  • WD40 may help with your problem.
