Depends on your situation. I have very hard water and need to use a pumice stick in addition to commercial cleaners.

Commercial cleaners Tang - koolaid internet recommendations did not work for my toilet hard water stains/ ring.

My solution was the pumice stick. This is excellent way to remove stains and rings in the toilet. When commercial toilet cleaners fail -this is my go to. Great for thick crusted calcium mineral build up that the toilet waterbowl collcts.

They are found at my local Walmart for less than two dollars -good for multiple uses. Be sure to follow the use instructions, soaking the pumice stone in water for a few minutes. While the stone is soaking, grab your toilet brush and splash water up around the ring. Note: It’s very important to keep both the stone and the surface wet while cleaning to avoid scratching your porcelain.

I just carefully pour bleach in the commode then swish with bowl brush. I use white vinegar in the tank; however, do not leave it longer than 10 minutes because it is acid and don't want it to corrode the flushing parts.

I pour 2 cups of white vinegar in the commode and leave it all night (or all day if everyone is gone during work hours). That makes it easier to scrub it out with a regular brush. Sometimes when we have been gone etc I also have to use Mr. Clean Magic scrub brush to finish it. They are expensive, so I only do that on rare occasions. I also use Simple Green (also non toxic like the vinegar) to disinfect and deodorize when needed.

Pop open a can of Coke if the stains are really bad. Lemon Koolaid if they are average.

Flush the toilet and then pour a quarter cup of Borax into it. Use your toilet brush to swish it around. Next, add one to two cups of vinegar and let the mixture sit for 30 minutes. You should be able to scrub the stains away!
