We have an extra bathroom that does not get flushed as often and you can see right where the water level has been. I have tried several methods to remove it but to no avail. Please advise.

Same issue here. I use a plunger to remove most of the water from the bowl first. Then, you can use a hard water product (The Works, CLR, Lime-Away) or in my case, I use Astonish (what I use on my flat surface stove). Any product will need a little scouring and thorough rinse.

I have this same problem with a basement toilet. I have found that if I put about 1/2 quart of vinegar in there a few hours before I try to clean, it makes it easier. I buy store brand 5% white vinegar by the gallon for cleaning coffee makers, and killing weeds, so I have it on hand.
