DIY All Natural Air Freshener

All you need to make these DIY air fresheners is a mason jar, a small piece of fabric, baking soda and essential oils of your choice. I also like to add in a few sprigs of fresh herbs, but this is completely optional.

Begin by filling up the mason jar with baking soda 3/4 of the way full. Baking soda is an excellent deodorizer so it is perfect to use in this air freshener to help absorb any unwanted lingering odors.

Now to make the room smell great add in your favorite essential oils. My go to combination is always a lavender citrus blend. I added 10 drops lavender oil and 10 drops orange to the baking soda.

If you chose to add in fresh herbs you can pop those into the jar too. Then all you do is place the piece of fabric over the jar opening and secure it on with the ring used to keep the lid in place. If you don’t have the metal jar ring you could always use a rubber band or a piece of twine. I cut the piece of fabric into a circle to give the jar a neater appearance.

And there you have your completed air freshener. If you want to decorate the jar some more you can do so at this point. I opted to tie a simple ribbon around the metal ring to dress it up a little.

I love the look of these little air fresheners and they really are effective at keeping things smelling fresh and clean! I like to add a few extra drops of the essential to the baking soda once a week to keep the scent stronger, and I completely replace the baking soda once a month. If you are frugal like I am, you can use the “old” baking soda to clean your toilet or scrub your tub, making this project very eco friendly and completely zero waste!
