DIY Odor Eliminating Spray for Fabric and Linen
How to remove odors from fabrics naturally with an easy spray recipe. This only has three ingredients and an essential oil blend to make fabrics smell better right away. Use this on your couch, curtains, chairs, and other fabrics. This is an easy recipe that helps freshen your furniture between cleanings.
The higher proof vodka you use, the better it will work. I could not find a high proof, so I used an 80 proof vodka. It will still work. I don't recommend using rubbing alcohol because it can irritate your lungs and skin.
I recommend using distilled water. Tap water can have minerals in it, which can put spots on your fabrics.
I used an essential oil blend from Simply Earth called BO Be Gone. If you click over to the post, I have recommendations for other oils that you can use.
To make this, you'll need:
- 1/2 cup high proof vodka
- 1/2 cup distilled water
- 50 drops BO Be Gone essential oil blend
- Spray bottle
Add the vodka to the spray bottle.
Add the essential oils. Shake gently to combine.
Add distilled water. Shake again to combine.
Always do a spot test before using all over. You can use this on your couch, pillows, curtains, and even carpets.
Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
I like that this fabric refresher recipe doesn’t use commercial fabric softener; the ones I've seen in the past do, and I don't buy commercial fabric softener.
I realize the appeal of this is knowing what's in the spray, compared to commercial fabric refreshers. How does this compare economically to commercial fabric refresher?
Thank you.
Awesome idea. Will flavored vodka work? I have grape vodka, already on site. That's why i ask?
Can I use a different alcohol and oil?
