I like to make my own DIY cleaning products. Not only does it save me money, but it reduces my family's exposure to harsh cleaning chemicals. One of my least favorite chores is doing the laundry. I try to do what I can to make doing laundry quick, easy, and painless. I have started making my own reusable fabric softener dryer sheets. The way regular fabric softener works is it keeps adding layers of chemicals to your clothing and towels, leaving you with layers and layers of chemicals on the products you use, wear, and sleep on every day. Ick! These DIY reusable fabric softener dryer sheets are made with vinegar, water, and essential oils. The nice thing about vinegar is that it is a natural fabric softener. And, the vinegar smell goes away, but the fresh smelling essential oil scents stay.

Gather your supplies. You'll need...

Towels and/or t-shirts

White Vinegar

Essential Oils (of your choice)

Water

Mason Jar

Cut your fabric.

Mix the liquid in the mason jar. Then add the fabric scraps and shake.

You'll have nice smelling laundry with the added benefits of knowing you saved money, helped the environment, and decreased your exposure to harsh chemicals.

OK, maybe I'm dense, but I can't seem to find the answer: Does the acidity of the vinegar matter? The highest I can find is 6 or 7% (as compared to your 9%). Thank you!!

I assume you put the wet vinegar sheet in the dryer with the wet clothes. Is it reusable dry or shoukd you wet it again in your solution?

I put the vinegar, essential oils and a bit of distilled water in a spray bottle... and just spray it on an old sock... or even directly on the load of clothes... works well!

Several years ago I listened to Bonnie Hunt when she was a talk show host. She told us that she was an oncology nurse before she was an actor. She revealed that all water softeners and dryer sheets are carcinogenic and can cause Cancer. I researched it and this is absolutely true. Even air refresheners are in the same category. Cancer patients aren't even allowed to use Lysol in their environment. So if you want to scent your clothes stick a wet hanky with essential oils in your dryer.
