Have you tried baking soda? You could lightly (very lightly) sprinkle some on the inside. Or you could wrap some baking soda up in a coffee filter then tuck them into the shoes. You could also try replacing the insert (soles) on the inside of the shoes.

You can always throw them in the washer on gentle cycle. I have even washed leather shoes and it doesn't seem to harm them.
Using old nylons. make sachets with cinnamon and baking soda. Leave them in your shoes overnight.
