If you can recreate the stain on spare pieces, you can bleach and then use documented dye mixtures until you find a good color match. Then Re-do the bleaching and dying on the installed carpet.
I wish I could help. It very hard to know how to approach it if you don't know what made the stain. Good luck. Answer #1 is a great idea if you have some extra carpet scraps. If not, try looking for a place that is hidden in a corner or under a sofa, to cut a swatch. This could be very successful if you place it with the nap going in the same direction.
Sounds like my hubby, he would never admit to doing something like that, even though he was the only human in the house at the time. The fur babies always did it. Yeah, right! They went in the fridge, poured Kool aide in a glass and spilled it on the carpet.
I agree. Best thing is to cut the stained section out, a little larger than the stain, cut a replacement piece from a less noticeable area (closet floor, or under the lowest shelf in a linen closet) if you don't have any extra that you can use. You can ask a locally owned carpet store what they would charge to do it for you. A professional job will look better and last without pulling every time you vacuum, etc.
It sounds like you have a problem with carpet wicking.

Use 1/4 cup of white vinegar, 1 tbsp. of Dawn dish soap, and fill with water. Spray area liberally and let soak for 5-10 minutes and then proceed with blotting with a clean, dry towel until stain is removed. Some carpet stain removal products can be of great benefit for combating many types of carpet stains.
