Hello Pamela, first put your towels in the washer with hot water and 1 cup of vinegar. Do not use soap or fabric softener and run them through all cycles. Then run them through another cycle with hot water and 1 cup of baking soda with no soap or fabric softener and then dry them. The stiffness is from built up soap and/or fabric softener.

Use a cup of vinegar in the rinse water. If you use fabric softener, it will build up in the towels and they will no longer absorb water. I also rinse twice to get all the soap out of my towels.

    Hi Pamela,

Wash them without any powder at all from now on, until they soften up.

  • Skip the fabric softener, it coats the fibers. Use vinegar and baking soda in the wash and felted wool dryer balls.
