Pull up the carpet and clean/replace the pad, which is where the urine dries and will keep sending molecules thru the carpet as it warms up during the day. Some janitorial suppliers sell several products to eliminate or neutralize the odor. BUT if it's been neglected for awhile, replacement is the only way.

You will need to use an enzymatic cleaner. You can buy Natures Miracle on Amazon. Works great!

I always, always, always keep a bottle of stain buddy on hand. It might be hard to come by these days so I bought a gallon of it 6 months ago. My dog is very well housebroken but the little guy before him was not. That is when I discovered Stain Buddy and the little guy's stains and smells were gone forever. Even our Big Guy now cannot smell the areas. It works GREAT! It was used on carpets and upholstered funiture and nothing, and I mean nothing is left of either stain or smell.
