How do you whiten a nylon slip?

I have a white nylon slip that yellowed over time,how do I whiten it?

  • You can try soaking in baking soda or an oxyclean type product, and it may help some. Once synthetics yellow or gray, there is not much that can be done without disintegrating the fabric itself.

    Hi Corinn: One thing you can do is soak the slip in full strength lemon juice, (don't dilute it) hang it in the sun and when it gets dry, do it again and again until the yellowing is gone. Then wash as usual.


    Or, you can Fill a bucket with enough water to cover the slip.


    Mix in some oxygen bleach according to the recommended amount on the package label for the amount of water being used.


    Soak the item overnight in the solution.


    Wash the item as usual the next day using the hottest water that the fabric can tolerate.

    You are very welcome. It seems that no one is wearing slips these days. Heck, you can hardly find a lady in a dress anymore!
