Soak the hat in white vinegar and that wash in blue dawn dish soap
First of all, Dry the hat with a hair drier, then give it a good brush.
Call a dry cleaner, and ask. If the dry cleaner let's you know it's cleanable, let them do it. You might not get the result you want, and you might run the hat, if you try something on your own. Good Luck!
Brush off all mildew -then get a box with a lid, lightly crumple newspaper all around the hat and inside the hat and on top of the hat inside the box, close the lid and leave for a week or two. Take out hat -discard newspaper and if any mildew odor remains on hat, do the process again. The newspaper absorbs all the mildew --works on books too but you have to fan out the pages of the open book
If the hat can be washed, try rubbing in some Swarfega leave for a while, then wash, this also works for oil stains.
