For tightly woven fabrics, gently pull the strips away from the fabric. For loose woven fabrics, do the same but hold down the threads so they do not pull away from the fabric. I used to work for an interior designer and salvaged many samples this way.

I agree with Dorlis. Gently wash the fabric in cool water and lay flat to dry, to remove leftover stickiness.

Ok. The point is that the fabric after washing became soft...or old.

New fabric usually has sizing on it, you can add fabric starch to the rinse..... or you can buy starch or sizing in a spray can. You can spray and iron on.

I have some of these. Do you mind if I ask what you are going to use them on. I can't think of what to use them for.

I have tried many ways to remove labels from the reverse side of upholstery and drapery fabrics. The best way, I have found, is to saturate the pieces with water and then submerge them, one or two at a time, in a lidded casserole and microwave for a minute or less. Labels are easily removed and any gummy residue may be scraped off with a butter knife. Have fun!

Just a note from J above. Put at enough water in the casserole to submerge the swatches.
