What is the best homemade carpet cleaner?

With having two dogs and a bird, the carpet is looking bad. I tried store bought products, but they don't seem to work too well. Sadly we lost one dog. We still have one dog and one bird. Love the animals but not the clean up.

Hot water with a little bit of white vinegar works beautifully! I use around a 1 to 10 ratio, pour a little onto the spot, and soak up the water and the stain with a white towel. Good luck!

I have two dogs also. I have tried many products over the years but have found the 409 carpet cleaner does the best job of removing the potty and vomit stains.

    1 cup white vinegar

    2 cups water

    2 tsp salt

15 drops lavender essential oil, or another clear essential oil of choice (find 100% pure essential oils here)

    Directions

Combine vinegar and water in a large spray bottle.

Add in salt and lavender essential oil.

    Cap and shake.

Spray on carpets liberally, shaking bottle frequently between sprays.

    Allow carpets to dry.

    Vacuum treated areas.

Note: For tougher stains, spray mixture directly on stain. Let dry and vacuum. Repeat if necessary

Thanks, I will try that as I like to use white vinegar in other cleaning jobs.
