If it's urine causing the smell, try Nature's Miracle spray. works great on any "biological" smells-urine, vomit, etc.,

I would not recommend putting ammonia on carpet if you have pets. Ammonia is also in their urine so if it's on the carpet to get rid of stains and odors then the pets may smell ammonia and think it's the right place to urinate. I use my carpet shampooer to get rid of the odors. I make my own shampoo from a recipe on the internet but store bought shampoo works also. It may take 2 or 3 washings. Cleaning it initially seems to bring the odor to the surface but it will dissipate in a few days if that happens. Good luck.

Thanks- my smells are not urine-related, thankfully- just doggie ‘B.O.’
