Hello. What I have found is to blot the urine up as soon as it happens and then use a good carpet cleaner made for pet stains. Natures miracle works well for the smell. When I have time, or after training a puppy I spray the spots again with the pet stain remover. I then clean the carpets with a carpet cleaner using a solution for pet stains. I go over the entire area and let it sit in for 15 minutes. I then go over the carpet again just sucking up the liquid, and repeat. After 2 times of going over it I use plain water and vinegar as a rinse. It may take a few deep cleanings to get the smell completely gone. Once you start cleaning the carpets you are pulling the urine up to the surface. If you don't have a carpet cleaner most home improvement stores rent them for the day. Good Luck!

I use straight white vinegar in a spray bottle. Saturate the area to make sure you get down to the padding. Let it dry, you will know because the vinegar smell will be gone. If there is still a faint odor, repeat it and perhaps expand the area just a little. The vinegar will also kill off any bacteria or mold or mildew spores that may be trying exist from the urine. This way does not require a lot of scrubbing that could change the look and texture of the carpet. Do check in an inconspicuous spot to make sure it doesn't change the color before doing this. This should get rid of a dog urine smell, it works for me for even strong cat urine and has never taken more that two applications.

When I have a client whose dog has urinated on the carpet, I use thick pads to absorb the mess, and then put pet enzyme cleaner in the reservoir of my carpet cleaner and clean the rug. If your dog has frequent accidents, I would crate him/her to train him and get him to develop bladder control. http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/dogs/tips/crate_training.html?credit

Unfortunately, I have become an expert in this! 😟 Here's my solution: I absorb any wet urine with paper towel, and get out whatever possible. The, I saturate, as above, with vinegar in a spray bottle. I then pour baking soda over the wetness, and leave this say for a day. The baking soda neutralizes doors, and absorbs out of the rug quite a lot. I am satisfied with this and it has been very effective, though I am aware you can also further purchase an enzymatic spray as a last step.

You have to use some cleaner that is biodegradeable. That breaks down the urine proteins. Mule team borax(just dissolve in very warm water) or Simple Green both work great for carpets. I have used it for pet urine before. Good luck. You can find these both about anywhere. Walmart, Meijer. etc.
