I would rip out that carpet and pad, and insert a small fan to make sure its dried out after giving it a good scrub with vinegar. Then replace with a carpet tile or two.

I think you will need to replace the carpet and padding for your health. Most likely you have mildew and mold spores which can make you very sick.

You may want to cut away that piece of carpet in the closet. It’s hidden behind a door I assume so that would work easily!

Gently spray the solution onto areas of the carpet that smell. Be sure not to oversaturate the area, since this can trigger more mold to grow. Pour baking soda over the treated areas.

Hi! I'm sorry, but, I agree with the others. The pad and underlayment are probably wet, moldy, etc. You could try to salvage the carpet for reinstalling with a new pad, but, I usually put peel and stick tiles on closet floors because it's easier to keep clean. Stay safe!
