First, wash out the soap tank on your carpet cleaning machine, then fill machine with hot hot water and about a cup of vinegar. Vinegar cuts soap. Then clean the carpets as you normally would using only the vinegar water.
Depending on the amount of buildup, you might need to do this several times followed by a clear water extraction.
The vinegar smell will disappear once it is completely dry.
