How do I remove cat pee and odor from a carpet?

I have 2 baby and 2 male cats that just got fixed. There are black marks on my carpet throughout the house. One cat decided to spray everything and the cat that would only go to the bathroom outside has been forced to stay in. I've cleaned up a lot of messes. Since they have been fixed, one has quit spraying but the other has not. When I see him sniffing around, I lock him in the bathroom with the box. It seems to be getting better.I can't take the smell or the stains any longer. The items I have on hand are Oxy Clean, Vinegar, peroxide, ammonia, alcohol, and baking soda. The black stains are deep. What mixture can I use to take care of all of this? Any help would be great.

Get ODOR GONE at Home Depot or Lowe's. Works great,

Unfortunately Odor Gone did not work so well for me. Guess my stains were just too much for it or something.....

One of my 2 cats (both neutered males) had taken to painting all of my walls, furniture, and anything else he could reach. I was horrified when I got a UV light. He never did that in all of the 9 years I've had him and didn't when I got him a buddy (they love each other and did so right away) but when a strange black cat started showing up outside both of my cats went nuts and the older one (9) started his wall painting, as well as the curtains out in the kitty room. I couldn't keep up with it.

My cats are indoor cats so it's not like the stray is actually going to get in here but they both hate him (and he is weird...my neighbor's cats hate him too). I've tried cleaning with a pet urine enzyme and then spraying some "No More Spraying" but that hasn't worked. He's a sneaky little bugger too; he waits until he thinks I'm not looking and then does it. He's learned that the minute I see him backing his butt up to something he gets yelled at.

It wasn't until I found "Cat Spraying No More" that I was able to finally get rid of this tiresome behavior.

Now my house doesn't smell like a litter box anymore :)

Hughes,. My cat is 17 going on 2. She sprayed everything in sight, my house smellled worst than a horse stall. Our carpet is also ruined. I use Lestiol, make a spray out of it. Dab it up with paper towels. To get rid of the smell, I use Arm & Hammer pet odor elimator. It's fine powder that you sprinkle on, wait 15 minutes, and vacuum up. For the odor eliminator I purchased a shaker with about 40 small holes in the top, very small holes. You can find it in the supermarket, in the baking isle. It mde to use for confectioners sugar, the white powder you find on doughnuts. Fill almost to the top. This shaker spreads evenly, and keeps from using too much in one area. I put it on my furniture. If your cats pee on any material, say a blanket, wash it in hot water with Lestiol, than again with regular laundry liquid. Smell it irst before you put it in the dryer. Aloha!

Hi ! You need to get an enzyme cleaner !!!!! This product " eats" natural waste , like urine , feces , vomit , blood ...It doesn't just make the scent , it gets rid of it completely ! This product can be found in most pet stores . Good luck !!!

Pamela is correct....you can get the enzyme cleaner at Amazon, Lowe's, even Walmart.

Just an FYI, if you neuter cats early they don't start spraying in the first place. 🙂

Use an enzyme cleaner if you have one. If you purchase one, I usually go to a pet store and ask what the best one is, they usually know what people say about what works and what they buy repeatedly. For the odor, I use straight vinegar in a spray bottle. I have used it on carpeting, rugs, upholstered furniture, clothes (have a female hybrid cat that likes to use the dirty clothes basket for litter box for a while). It removes the odor as well as the enzyme cleaners, but is much cheaper than the cleaners. The enzyme cleaners usually take more than one application for odor since it isn't easy to get the whole area that it soaked into in the carpet and getting it deep enough to cover how far down it soaked in. Spray the odorous area well with the vinegar, leave it be until it dries( you won't smell the vinegar). Give it a sniff test to see if you got it all, if not, re apply deeply and widely over the area. Hopefully that will take care of the odor. I have never had to do it three times, myself. After cleaning up the room she liked to use, she never peed in it again since her pee odor was gone. The vinegar will also take care of any bacteria, mold or mildew spores that may be developing in the area used.

Those are all good ideas! If there was any urine in carpeting, you need to make sure the pad underneath is treated as well. There are other things to do as well. Make sure there are plenty of litter pans, usually one per cat (clean often).Cats usually mark because there are still other cats around outside. I have ferals and I had to transition them with outdoor debris( leaves) mixed with cat litter.
