How can I clean raw wood cabinets?

I installed raw cabinets without hand pulls about 6 months ago and I'm finally ready to stain but they have lots of stains from little greasy hands...any ideas how to clean so the bad stains won't show through the good stain?

You may try alcohol or acetone to remove the grease. Then sand and prime before doing anything else. There are other people of HT who are more experienced at this type of thing than I am. You may get other ideas

Try TSP (the people at the store will know what you're asking for) and wipe them down then stain or paint whatever color you want.

I also suggest TSP. At Home Depot it's in paint department in cleaners section. If you stain there is a pre stain product that prepares wood to help avoid dark patches. This happens on raw wood because of it's density. If you paint, I suggest a primer like Zinsser Bin. This covers stains too.

I would like to suggest a non-toxic cleaner. Basic H from Shaklee products (pronounced shack-lee). Basic H is of the Healthy Home Get Clean product line and is highly concentrated. You are welcome to visit my website and look around. You do NOT have to be a "member" to order however, note that the price will be a bit higher. http://nutritionfirst.myshaklee.com
