Patti if it’s heat then your finish has been compromised. A table cloth is a quick fix. Use protective trivets and the table will need to be refisinhed or accept them as war wounds of life.
I have tried mayonnaise. Take a little & buff. It takes out light white spots but doesn't do the whole trick for deeper white spots.
I have had luck with removing white marks from furniture with this product. This is what the back says as I can not get a good picture. Refinishing - To remove alcohol, cosmetic and stains, soak steel wool pad (#00 or finer) with Antique Care. Rub entire surface with finger pressure, let soak half hour. Rub again until stains disappear. Wipe clean, wipe dry. Antique Care, Woodbury Conn. I found this bottle years ago on an excursion. I have not tried to replace this bottle and do not know where to find it at this point. Bottle says company is in Woodbury Conn.

Hi Patti, pour a small amount of olive oil in a bowl, and add about 2 tablespoons of table salt Wrap a small clean cloth around your finger and dip it in in the oil/salt solution and very lightly rub it in a circular motion over the white spots. Let it sit for a few minutes and then take a clean cloth and gently wipe it off. The white spots should disappear.
