My kitchen cabinets are sticky. They are varnished, and I've tried every type of cleaner and they are still sticky.

Have you tired Murphy's Oil Soap? I use it to clean all my wood products and it does remove that sticky, grease film on kitchen cabinets and leaves a lovely soft finish.

Try Bio Breakdown. It's available at hardware stores. It's awesome at cutting through sticky messes.

If the sticky is from grease, I have found that ammonia works very well. I use ammonia around my cook top, just turn on the exhaust fan.
  • I used TSP and found that it worked great.

If it is an actual 'varnish' you might want to try a test spot with little rub down with some mineral spirits on a wet/damp soft cloth to dissolve the topcoat a bit, wipe off quickly so you don't strip entirely, let dry and wash down and see if it solved your problem.

Sounds counter intuitive, but oil takes off oil. so use some orange or lemon oil. If you use the other suggestions you may lose your varnish. Did that....the grease makes the varnish soft or something. I had to have mine redone around the handles because I scrubbed..

If it is cooking oil based stickiness this product and paper towels will work well.

Do you have an exhaust fan over your stove top? That might help to reduce stickness which could be caused by cooking fumes etc.. Oil, grease. Or would it be possible to lightly sand the cabinets, and repaint, if that is possible. Cabinets in the kitchen always seem to gather grease and dirt, even champagne (when you are silly enough to leave a champagne bottle in the freezer for too long and when you open the bottle - kboom - champagne everywhere, dripping off the ceiling, off the fan, off me, off the cupboards). So sticky.

I have the best product that I have used or years. Its called a finish Rejuvenator and its an old product invented for antiques. I have saved so many pieces of furniture and antiques with it. It cuts grease but never harms the finish and its easy. SHake it up, put it on and wipe it off. If you want something that works look it up. www.thevictorianhouseproducts.com
