Give it at least 48 hours to dry and after that, if there is still a ring, I apply olive oil or mayo and let it sit for a day or so. A water ring is usually in the finish on the table-built up oil or furniture polish. If the ring is heat damage from a hot bowl or casserole dish, then it may not come out. That is almost always in the wood.

Rub anything with an oily substance (peanut butter, mayo, oil etc. ) into the water stain and leave on long enough for the stain to dissipate.

Try a very warm, no steam, iron . Place a soft cloth, like an old tea towel folded in half, over the spot and iron over the spot, checking it from time-to-time to see the results. If the damage isn't too bad, this should work. Be careful not to heat it up so much that the veneer glue gets hot. You are only heating the water mark on the surface.

I have a mixture of 3 parts olive oil and 1 part vinegar - just rub it on the water stain and let sit for a couple of minutes then buff off - and your water stain is gone :-)

Thanks to all who submitted solutions.... I did try all but one, that of using an iron as I was a bit wary of that suggestion. I didn't have any success with any so I got desperate and used firstly toothpaste - no success then Brasso - no success then Chemico (a pink cleaning paste) and after a lot of elbow grease - job successful! Phew!

Oil did not help me at all. I have removed many water stains from veneer furniture using rubbing alcohol and when the fumes are gone a blow dryer.
