The big question is: Is it bare wood that is stained or do you have a piece of finished furniture that has the finish stained. A photo of the damage would be of great help.
If it is raw wood, there isn't a lot you can do beside sanding the stains off then sealing the wood. Finished furniture is a whole 'nother issue.

I’ve used Comet cleaner before. Just moisten a rag with water and put a little bit of Comet on it. Very gently rub it over stain. Wipe off with another clean damp rag. Comet also has a little bit of bleach in it and if you are patient you can get the stain out without anymore damage to wood.
