There is a stain on a chair, probably from resting one's head on the back of the wingback chair. Also want to spot clean the carpet.

What fabric is the chair and what type of carpet? Is the stain an oil stain on the back of the chair and what kind of stain is on the carpet?

The chair is gold, cotton, has the feel of corduroy (soft but no twill). I'm sure it is a spot where a head has rested and it is probably hair oil or product. The carpet stain is on sisal and it is a pepper jelly stain - not big but I'd be happy to get it up. Thanks.

For the chair try putting cornmeal or baking soda on the oily portion and leave on overnight to see if that draws the oil to the top. As for the carpeting I would first try club soda. Pour onto the stain and leave on long enough to draw to the top. Then cover with white paper towel laying a heavy object on top to also aid in lifting the stain. That is what I always do and it works really well.

Cornstarch, Powder it on and leave it for about 1/2 and hour and brush it off with a soft brush. Cornstarch works well between shampoos also. : )========= Pepper jelly, hmmmm (Just an educated guess) mild soap and water or laundry detergent and water. Laundry detergent will have stain release in it. : )

To spot clean light spots on carpets or fabric, use a clear spray window cleaner. It will leave no marks. If you have an oil stain or mastic (glue) use DeSolv All. (You can buy this online or at janitorial stores. This is concentrated orange oil. Just use it straight on the stain, but rinse immediately with cold water after cleaning.) For Pet stains with odors use BIZ. Mix with water & spot clean the area. You can dry the area with a towel (step on it) or use a rug cleaner. The enzymes in the BIZ will continue to work even when the area is dry.

I've used Tuff Stuff upholstery cleaner, with great results. Wal- mart, K-mart or any automotive store.
