if it's a water spot heat your iron to medium setting, put down a piece of 100% cotton cloth. iron over the spot till it disappears. use a good wood polish after. it has worked for me many times.
Vaseline
Try Restore-A-Finish. About 5-10.00 a can. Rub on with a soft cloth, in direction of he wood grain. Wipe off with a 2nd cloth. Available at home store. Comes in colors to match all finishes. I have used it on lots of wood finishes. Removes / covers white spots from water, scratches and wear marks.
I have heard rubbing toothpaste on it then polishing it with a soft cloth afterwards. Not going to lose anything most everyone has toothpaste.
