Cigarette odor Treatment for knotty pine wall

We have a converted garage with a room next to it that has a knotty pine wall. A cigarette smoker lives in the garage area and the odor of nicotine is sometimes very strong in the knotty pine room. Is there any treatment that would eliminate the odor? Could it be blocked by painting the wall?

Washing the walls periodically (even if painted) will be required. See if you can get an ozone smoke eliminator.

Use oils based kils first. Then paint
The only real solution is for the person to not smoke in the garage area. Are they aware of the problem they are causing for you? Maybe if they knew, they would smoke outside, or even consider quitting. It seems a lot of smokers are simply oblivious and kindly approaching them regarding the odor on the other side of the wall would be a first step. Knotty pine is beautiful, I hope you don't have to paint it.
