That's how it's done. Use heavy duty wrap with the shiny side up. I only use canning salt and boiling water. I then finish up with a wipe of silver polish and rinse off and polish with soft towel. The polish leaves a protective coating.

You can do that but you should read what happens to the silver when you do that. The statements on this website include a section of warnings. One is about what happens to the silver that can only be seen under a microscope. Does it matter? Will it affect the silver in the coming years? I don't know but you should read this and decide. This author also states that some recipes use only salt and some only baking powder.

This lady did it in her stainless steel sink, covered with aluminum foil. She did it with her kids so they could see what happens to the tarnish when they use the aluminum foil.

You can use crunched up foil soda crystals and boiling water as long as one piece of your silver is touching the foil and the rest of your silver is touching each other it will be fine in a stainless steel sink . Two jobs in one , clean silver and clean sink.

I WOULD NOT USE SALT AS IT CAN PIT THE SILVEERROR AND SINK !

I've never had much luck with this method. Try a product called Wenol, German made. I've used it for years and it works great. Requires a little elbow grease, but you will be pleased.

These are many ways to clean your silver, try one of these:

    No more tarnishing with aluminum

Boil 4 cups of water, a tablespoon of baking soda, and some aluminum foil. Place silverware in for 10 seconds then remove with kitchen tongs.

    Ketchup isn’t just for eating

Tarnished silver can be polished with ketchup using a paper towel – for silver that has crevices, use a toothbrush.

Kill two birds with one stone

When using Windex to clean your windows, spray some on a rag and use it to scrub your silver.

    Brush your silver with toothpaste

Use circular motions to brush non-gel and non-abrasive toothpaste onto silver. Leave on for five minutes before washing off with water.

    Use soda for tarnished silver

Fill a plastic bowl with lemon-lime soda and place slightly tarnished silver in it for one hour. Rinse and dry with a paper towel.
