I sell a lot of jewelry on Ebay. The best and easiest solution I found is white toothpaste (not gel) and a damp tooth brush. Just lightly brush, rinse and wipe. Also gem stones come out sparkling. Commercial cleaners, like Tarnex, r tend to remove some of the metal. Also works on copper, brass, and watches.
The toothpaste tip is amazing!!
White toothpaste is the most effective way and the cheapest way.
Never heard of "flannel sterling" and I've made jewelry for over 40 years.
