I'd let the mugs sit with cleaning vinegar for at least 24 hours, then rinse and clean thoroughly with hot water and dish soap. I have also used Barkeepers in the powder form and was very successful cleaning old dingy coffee mugs. Always rinse with clean hot water. Best of luck.

  • I have put some dishwasher detergent and water and let it soak overnight and it worked. Of course, now I use gel packs for the dishwasher so I bought a very small bottle at the $ store. That detergent is more concentrated.

My husband's thermos gunk's up with coffee deposits. I just put in some liquid dish detergent and fill with boiling water. (When out of liquid I use powder detergent. Do not use the capsule detergents.) Let stand to soak out gunk stains & then clean & rinse as usual. Works every time & you will be surprised at what comes out when you empty.

Why not bleach? you can soak it for days with everything else or just put a tiny bit of bleach and clean it in seconds...it also rinses totally clean and it will kill any bacteria, fungus, or viruses. scrubbing it with abrasive pads could just scratch the interior and it will collect more stain.

I just sprinkle some salt in the cup/mugs and just wipe with your dish cloth rinse well. Most mugs/cups get stains in them after frequent use and dish washing machines don't always clean properly. Whichever you use make sure you give your mugs a thorough rinse.
