John....I have found that using plastic storage containers in microwaves usually cause stains that are impossible to remove...even if they say microwave safe after a while they will show. I have been purchasing containers that are glass that can be microwaved. Hope you can get some better answers for both of us!

It is not necessarily microwaves doing that. It seems to me that it is different plasrics. I have Tupperware that is 35 years old and I keep waiting for them to get all stained up. Not yet. Some of the newer stuff does. O.K. John, Try getting a dishcloth wet and put some baking soda on it and scrub the plastic. Try putting the baking soda on the wet plastic and scrubbing with a wet dishcloth with baking soda on it , too. Do not use bleach. No, no, no bleach. Good luck. 😊 🌹💖😘

Bleach can be used to remove ink, juice, soda, coffee, tea, tomato sauce and tomato paste stains, and all other types of food dyes. Make a solution of water and bleach, using one tablespoon of bleach per cup of water. Let the containers and other items soak in the solution for one or two hours.

  • Fill with white vinegar and set in the sun for a day or two. I never put anything with a tomato base or beets in plastic, as it stains. For those items, I use glass storage containers.

If vinegar or lemon juice doesn't do it, I wouldn't use bleach because anything you use will leach into the plastic. You might try whitening toothpaste or denture tablets. I have moved to glass except my husband's work containers, those we are just stuck with staining until it gets too bad then replace.
