A good soak in vinegar ought to clear that right up for you. Put a dishtowek in the bottom of the sink, fill with hot tap water, a squirt of dish soap and a cup or two of white vinegar.
It sounds like your glass items have been “etched” by dishwasher detergent. This is caused by adding too much detergent. For general washing only a small amount of detergent is required, using more can damage dishes and glassware. Only the main closed cup should have detergent in it, and only to the indicated line for a regular wash, or one detergent tablet. The open cup is only filled when washing pots and pans that need extra “scrubbing “, and no other items should be in the dishwasher. Refer to the instructions for your dishwasher for specific detergent amounts and instructions.
The discoloration on the glass is not a film but actual damage to the surface. It should be possible to polish it out, but that is a tedious process.
I tried the vinegar/soap soak overnight but it didn’t make a dent. I don’t think they are etched because when my niece dug her thumbnail across it, it came off in that part. I’ve tried cleaning it with every scrubber and type of cleaner I can think of, but I don’t want to use a knife because that might scratch the glass. I’m desperate for suggestions, please help! Cyn Sue I have always (and only!) used the powder. Use it with a wet green scrubby. If Bar Keepers Friend can't scrub it off it's likely etched BUT the photo doesn't look like it. It really just looks like a stubborn deposit.
It’s definitely not etched in. The CLR looked like it was working, but the film came back after a bit. I’ve even tried soaking/scrubbing with a bleach/water solution and a magic eraser. I’ll give the Bar Keepers Friend a shot. Something has got to work! Thanks Robyn.

some dishwasher soaps may leave a film ... or if you hand wash, always rinse with vinegar and hand dry -- you have a calcium/lime build up.
this does nothing on diswasher glassware. even tried denture cleaners

Try CLR
Use Bar Keepers Friend on a green scrubby. You can get it at Home Depot, Bed, Bath Beyond, etc.

Try a Mr Clean Magic Eraser. Also works to remove metal silverware marks on white dishware.
