I suspect you are using store bought dog food. It has dye in it. And that dye may have gone farther than you think into the wood, so sanding it down may be noticeable. I don't have a suggested product, but every Sunday there is a guy on the radio that answers all sorts of questions on anything to do with houses and stuff like floor stains. His name is Glen Hagae and the program is called The Handyman Show. Google it and you can e-mail your question or call him on the air. Hope this helps.
bummer. I have the same issue. I clean it well and take a straight razor and shave off the stain. Then use floor polish just in that area.
