Boil water, crumple up foil balls and add them to the water. Add your silver. Add more foil balls if it is super tarnished. Use tongs to remove the silver from the hot water and rinse.
Put the aluminum foil in the sink with stopper in place OR get an aluminum pot at a thrift store and dedicate it to cleaning your silver. Anyway, put about 4 oz of FRESH baking soda (new box) into the sink or pan. Lay silver items on top of this. Pour boiling water over it to cover all the silver. Let sit until cool. Heavily tarnished pieces may need more treatments.

I've tried this several times with no luck. Just buy Weimans diver cleaner, pretty easy. Never use Tarnex, ruins silver.
