Barkeeper's Friend. Is your tub rusting or did you leave something metal in the tub so the rust came from something else?

I would use a soap infused steel wool pad like a Brillo pad along with a powered cleanser. The most important part is then to paint over just the area where the tub has rusted with a porcelain paint - otherwise it will rust again.

If something like CLR doesn't take care of it, try a magic eraser

If the tub is older, the rust spot is rust leaching through the porcelain. Do not use any harsh chemicals on the tub as the chemicals will cause rust to leach through in other areas too. Chemicals break down the porcelain over time and you will see a white powder. By harsh chemicals, I mean dry powered products, such as dry powered Comet. Liquid Comet is okay and does not cause leaching. I dilute the liquid Comet with water and use a spray bottle. This is extremely gentle and I do not have to combat the leaching, any more. (Thank goodness, as we have 20 tubs....not a mansion, a motel).

    CLR from any hardware section.
