You can buy something to put in paint that retards or kills mold. Ask at Lowes.

Check with your paint store. They have something to put in paint to kill or retard it.

Try cleaning the area with Hydrogen Peroxide. Wear gloves and be sure the area is well ventilated. Try this a few times. Use Kilz when the area is dry. This should do the trick.

You really need to remove that ceiling. Black mold is horrible to be breathing and it gets worse each time you shower.

Try some KILZ Carolyn if you can't remove at the moment, at least cover what you can.

  • And call the decorator back and have a chat with them. Some of your money ought to be refunded - take photos or invite them over.

Before you paint anything on a mouldy ceiling, you have to kill the existing mold. You can kill with vingear and/or bleach and water, then a wipe with vinegar. I wear a mask when I do this.

You can add an additive to prevent mildew into paint, but if the room is damp enough, it will come back. Best to have a good exhausting ceiling fan/light fixture to reduce moisture. Also a small heater in the bathroom helps dry it out. I regularly spray my bath when I get out of the shower, as mold is the state flower of Oregon.
