How do I get rid of what appears to be rust spots on my silverware?

I don't have expensive silverware but especially the spoons and knives get what seems to be little spots of rust on them. I think it comes from the dishwasher. Is there anyway to get rid of those marks? It makes them look like they are still dirty.

If they’re stainless steel, I’d scrub them off with Comet/Ajax.

What is rusting inside the dishwasher?

You can try WD40 and a green kitchen scrubby. Rinse well.

I sell a lot of silver on Ebay. Jewelry, silverware, serving sets. Silver polish like Wrights and dips like TarnX tend to remove some of the metal. The foil method doesn't work that great and still leaves a grey film that still needs to be removed. I use white toothpaste (not gel) and a damp toothbrush. For large items I use a damp cloth. Also works on copper, brass, gold, porcelain, ceramics, sneakers, plastics, etc. For my sales I needed one product for cleaning everything.

There is a product called Brasso that you can buy at Walmart. It works on stainless and should remove the rust spots. I would try it on a small section first https://amzn.to/2YbbZhz

I had the same problem and used a damp Magic Eraser. It works!
