If the blinds are not too wide, lift them off the rail at the top. There are probably side clips to hold it in place so lift them up first and then lift up the blind. If you leave the blind pulled up and it is vinyl you can then place them in your tub or shower, on a towel so they do not scratch the tub/shower and then hose them down with warm, soapy water. Rinse well. Let sit until they have drained properly, lift out and place on a towel to dry properly. I have found this to be the easiest method for a thorough cleaning.

Lyn Hi,. You can purchase a blind cleaner. It looks like a handle with fingers. You put 4 blinds at a time, through the fingers and slide across the blinds. Don't use any cleaner that is sticky, this will cause dust and dirt to cling to them. If the blinds are wood use Murphy's Oil Soap, follow the instructions on the back of the bottle. You can find this in the cleaning isle, with other floor cleaners. Metal blinds you can use some vinegar and dish soap. 10% vinegar the rest diluted soap. Purchase the blind cleaner at Bed,Bath, and Beyond. Aloha!

Yes to the tub idea! That's a great way to initially clean them, but to maintain them, you can get a pair of baby socks and old tongs and put a sock on each end. It makes it super easy to wipe down both sides. I do that once a month.

Thanks to ALL of you for your responses. I recently moved into a shared living space & to avoid the cost of replacement (condition is good, just really dirty) I really needed a simple method to give them a GOOD cleaning. Thanks again Hometalk & it's subscribers... I'm going to try your suggestions!
