How do you clean an artificial Christmas tree?

We received my hubby's family tree and it reeks of smoke. It's a 7 1/2 Douglas fir and glorious. I would love to get rid of the smell.

Can you ‘air it out’ by putting it on a porch or patio until smell is gone? Beware of critters or birds attempting to make a home in it.

Or try to put cinnamon or pine scented pinecones or greenery within the branches? Or scented garland if they make it. Perhaps hang some scented sachets within the branches.

Maybe Febreeze can help? Not sure if that would damage the tree or cause it to become flammable, etc, use caution Or ask at a hardware store.

These are just suggestions, I’m not a pro, etc. lol.

Interesting issue though, never thought of that happening. Good luck!

I have it out on my patio at the moment but I go out to the patio area and can still smell it.

Take outdoes and wash it down with white vinegar, leave in the sun to dry. The vinegar should eliminate the odor. Do not use any air fresheners, they mask the odor

I thought about trying to wash it down with white vinegar but I was afraid that it make change the color of the branches and needles. I guess I'll try it cross your fingers.

white vinegar should not change the color of the tree and should take most of the smell out, you may have to wash it several times. I have a tote bag that I'm still working on to get the smoke smell out, washed 3x already and can still smell it. Leave the tree outside as long as you can.

Thank you. I will bring it into the house on the 15th. That's the day we usually decorate.
