How do you clean old wooden bowl?

I found an old wooden bowl that I think was hand turned. It has sat in old shed quite awhile andis caked with grime. The areas I can see have beautiful grain and I'd love to restore it. Ideas? HELP!

Just wash it with some mild dish soap and dry with a dish towel, then see how it looks. Will make a great decor piece for you.
Brush all the crime off carefully and then . . . again carefully, sand it down to thoroughly clean it. Don't use water or any cleaning products.

Use Murphy's Oil Soap to clean, then sand and oil to finish.

I'd wash it with a liquid soap and water. Let it dry thoroughly then oil it a few times with lemon oil. That should bring up the grain. If it is very old, it is most likely made from a hardwood and will withstand the soap and water.
