Apple cider vinegar is a good odor neutralizer. You can leave cups of it around the house to eliminate the smell.

Also , dishes of fresh coffee grounds in the cabinets and closets may help .

  • You need to find the source of the smell - search attic, basement, every nook and cranny till you find it! Bags of charcoal will help. Put some in every room.

If you have a smell that has permeated the house, I'd use Hot Shot Odor Neutralizer. It's a fogger so follow the directions exactly. It gets into every nook and cranny instantly.

Was the chimney cleaned when the new furnace was put in? Maybe something got in there and died? If its a chemical kind of smell, I use lavender. Diffuse it. When I buy a piece of Chinese furniture from a store like HomeGoods that has a toxic-chinese-chemical smell, I saturate a sponge with lavender oil, put it inside, close the drawer/door and in a day or 2 the odor is gone.....maybe it will work in a room too??

I would check for water leaks behind the walls with a moisture meter. It could be mold your smelling.
