I squirt some Dawn dish soap in the toilet. Pour in some vinegar and swish around with a toilet brush to foam it up. Let it sit for about an hour. Srub a little and flush. The foam suspends the vinegar above the water line to get that water ring.

We use a combination of baking soda and vinegar. First we put 1 cup of baking soda in the toilet, then add 1 cup of regular white vinegar ( or apple cider vinegar). It will quickly Foam up but won't over flow! Let it sit for about a half hour then use the bathroom cleaning brush swishing it all inside the toilet. Flush a couple times & stains along with any unpleasant smells will be gone! It's safe & won't damage pipes either. Do this once or twice a month for cleaning maintenance. It's also harmless in case you have a dog that likes to drink out of the toilet. This will help to discouraged that!
