Removing rust stains from a bathtub. Can you resurface a bathtub yourself?

There is a new product on the market that Says it can restore the bath to new, but as far as rust goes, I would recommend CLR.. it will remove rust, lime, and calcium.. Sorry, I cannot remember the name of the other product, but it is basically a buffering compound that is used for fiberglass tubs. It even states it will remove cigarette burns, but I don't know...   @Ruslzplace Is it Tough as Tile or Rustoleum Tub and Tile maybe? I am thinking about using this on the bath in my Airstream . If there is something else I sure would like another option!

  @Carol No, this is mainly used on fiberglass tubs and sinks.. It restores the fiberglass and (in theory) buffs it out to a shine. Kinda like those headlight restore treatments, which, of course is what a rubbing compound does for fiberglass.. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.. R

  Now if it is a porcelain tub, there is an epoxy coating that can be brushed on to even change the color. We did a remodel that had a pink tub, and the owner didn't want to buy a new one, we used this to make a bright white tub and sink.. The owner was very happy with the results, as it actually looked like a new one.. R

  There is a product for refinishing/reglazing porcelain. Think you have to sand before applying. The fumes are very overwhelming. I paid to have my clawfoot taken out and done. The finish has held up so worth the money.

  @Marion Nesbitt You are very correct. It is very nasty in a closed space, and must have adequate ventilation. We were lucky to have access to a 4 season room, And no one was living there.. But it was beautiful when finished...

There is a paint available for bathtubs.Check your local home improvement store.

If you need to resurface your entire tub and/or tile call Miracle Method. It isn't inexpensive but it beats replacing them;. I had both tubs done five years ago and they are still in wonderful condition.
