you can wash it after every use, but don't let water sit in the pan because then you may have to re-season it.

no. You scrub out food with soapy sponge or scrubbeE not Brillo. Then re-oil wipe off excess and store in oven. Don’t forget to remove before preheating oven

If you wash it you must dry it completely or it will rust. I put mine in the oven after hand drying at 200 for 20 minutes and let it cool down. Periodically I put some oil on it , rub it in, remove as much excess and again put it in the oven but at 250 or 300 for 20 minutes and let it cool down. This keeps it more like a non-stick pan. To clean after bas8c dishes I use a damp cloth with sea salt and scrub until it becomes comes completely clean. Wipe out the salt and it's good to go.

You don’t technically “wash“ cast iron skillets. They are seasoned and if you’ve got something really stuck on them you can use salt to scrub it out and then immediately season the pan. If you don’t use your pans often, you can quickly wash them in hot soapy water then dry them immediately, season them and store them. If you Google ’how to season cast iron’, there is a wealth of info online on various methods. Enjoy!

As often as you wish, just be sure to heat it up and drive off the moistur, then give it a quick wipe with paper towel dipped in bacon drippings. Just a thin coating to coat all surfaces inside and out. That will do.

To reseason your cast iron pan, use Flack seed oil, it is best done outside due to high temperature, the smoke and the smell that will result with the process, I use a propane burner from my turkey fryer, bring the pan to around 400*F use tongs and a paper towel and apply a thin coating Flak seed oil leave it on the heat till it is totally dry, do this 2 more times, its a good 2 to 2.5 HR process to do it right, the results are well worth the effort. The resulting finish will be near scratch resistant, go ahead and use that metal spatula.

You NEVER want to store food in cast iron or leave a cast iron skillet or pan soaking in the sink... it can cause the pan to rust... and then you need to treat it for the rust and re-season it... which, if done properly can be an involved process... HOBBYFARMS.com has really good information on cleaning, seasoning, and maintaining cast iron... they also recommend putting something like a paper towel between cast iron pots and pans when storing them ... follow their instructions and your cast iron will last for generations (I am still using some that belonged to my Grandmother)
