I have no solution, but I DO have a similar issue. I have rust underneath the aluminum trim of the shower door. HELP...All I can think of is that this door must be replaced.

Yes but if a metal screw is not stainless it will rust. I suggest you clean and DRY well and seal area w clear caulk.

i have seen people soak beauticians cotton rope w bleach and leave sitting where mold is..in the cracks..then dry and reseal.

If it's black mold it is very difficult to remove it permanently. I usually just spray it with bleach (full strength) and let it dry. I don't scrub it because it can spread it. When it begins to turn pink, repeat the process.

Yes, bleach or a mildew/mold remover. Vent the area better so it dries frequently and mold will be less likely.

Thanks, "Pallet Man"...for this info on the "rust" stain...GREAT info. I am wondering is there is any way to clean it away. We are selling our house, and want to get it as clean as possible.

Try some old fashioned oven cleaner, I found some that doesn't have a smell but I still vent the room and close the door. Leave overnight and wake to a new enclosure. (always try this first in a small area). I've tried this and can verify it works better than anything I've ever used.

This might sound weird but try scrubbing the area with a used dryer sheet. I have had very good luck with cleaning yucky shower stalls (three kids in college housing!) and I have never been more surprised at the amount of gunk that a used dryer sheet will remove

I will get a orangy and sometimes black build up - within the plastic gasket seal on the bottom of the shower door. A moistened toothbrush readily removes this getting in the narrow crack where moisture and resulting build up collects.

This is mold/mildew growth. You need to kill it with bleach or a mold/mildew remover. It may need some scrubbing.

I know you didn't ask but thought I would throw this in. Years ago a lady that cleaned houses told me she used furniture polish on fiberglass shower doors after cleaning to let the water run off rather than sticking. Sounds like it would work.

Wiping the glass with WD-40 also works or Rain-X windshield treatment.

I have thoroughly cleaned fiberglass surrounds and put on a coat of turtle wax...buff dry. Gets that clean shine back. Lasts for quite a while too.

Many thanks to all! CARWAX: I have heard of it being used on the shower door...I might try the oven cleaner on that door also (before waxing)...it has heavy mineral deposits, and then the issue with the orangey/brown that is under the shower door rim...I will put painter's tape over the metal to protect it while cleaning. Fiberglass floor has one stain where the liquid soap container

was for awhile. It's not very dark, but still there....(yellowish).

My fiberglass (White-off white) is. Clean, no mold, it has very little shine..what can I do to give it a little Gloss?

    • Pallet Man Pallet Man on Feb 14, 2017

Get fiberglass boat cleaner and polish. Often, it has lost the shine either to a thin film of calcium (hard water) or it has been scrubbed with an abrasive like Ajax. Polishing it just like you would polish a fiberglass boat works. Try a product called Gel Gloss. It is designed for this.
