I went to Menards or any home improvement store and bought a gal. jug of "Damp Rid" it comes in various sizes and depending on where you use it should determine what size. I buy the gal bucket size and place it in my laundry room (basement) it sometimes gets that damp basement smell? Usually when the humidity is high, and this takes care of it, I change the bucket every 3-4 months.
Take care of removing the mold/mildew first, vinegar works on small areas..... if a large area or more serious contamination, I use Concrobium. Ventilate the room well and wear a mask.
If the room has a large area of mold to clean run a fan in there exhausting fumes out the window.
Any contaminated drywall should be cut out if other than just a mild coat of mildew.
I would get Room Shocker to kill any odor once clean. They sell it at Lowes, Home Depot and Walmart, or Amazon.
You need to find the culprit as to where the mold is coming from. If you don't get rid of it, it will eat up the house. It's also toxic. It could be the stacky brottress which is deadly (the black mold you hear about). Get some Tilex and spray the tilex (with mildew root killer) directly on the mold. Put on some rubber gloves and spray that stuff everywhere. I think you should get a home inspector to come out and find the mold and get rid of it professionally. If it's a large area, you may be able to file a claim with the Homeowner's insurance. You may have a leak somewhere causing the damp and mold cultivation. Good Luck!
