I like the kitty litter idea.
Try putting the books in a box with a layer of newspaper to protect them- then a layer of charcoal - cover an put in a dry place for a few wks. A retired librarian friend shared this with me. Hope it helps
Try coffee grounds before cooking them.
try cedar chips,deativated charchol
Place in trashbags with charcoal. Leave in about a week. Should make them a bit better.
If you can put an open book in a container (maybe plastic underbed storeage) with a bowl of activated charcoal (aquarium type) time will take care of the musty smell.
I agree with using charcoal or even baking soda to get the smell out. Putting them in a bag and securing it would help.
Here's a good article on the subject.... https://www.biblio.com/book-collecting/care-preservation/prevent-remove-mold-mildew/
If none of that works I would get this mold fogger for your book room.... http://biocidelabs.com/Mold_Bomb_Fogger.php
