Goo Gone, paint thinner, terpintine . Soak off paper labels in sink of hot water,, then the solvents will do the rest
I usually run the jar under really hot water from the tap and then the glue 'melts' and you can scrub it away easily. You can use Goo Gone if you still have some remaining.

I soak them in hot water and use rubbing alcohol to remove any remaining goo. For stubborn spots, I use goo gone.
